The month of February acknowledges and celebrates several special dates and occasions. But one of the most popular, warm hearted and touching one is the annual “Valentine’s Day”. That acknowledges and spotlights the love that one may feel for that special person in their life. This kind of love, though precious and good. It is not the same as “the God kind of love”: that never fails. God’s love is selfless, long suffering and unconditional, yet always kind and pure.
This love is beautiful and everlasting. Because it’s focus is on the will of God and what pleases Him not themselves or their agenda. Therefore, on this gracious Valentines Day that tries if it may, to celebrate love man’s way. But not accepting the fact that “man made love is very different. Man-made love relationships are established and based on certain conditions. With God there are none. God loves us in spite of our selves. And His love is unconditional but His promises are not. Love is the foundation of everything that God does because He is the essence of pure “Love”.
Therefore, on this special occasion where romantic love is usually vividly expressed through various means, avenues, creative gestures and passionate, touching words especially through various gifts from the heart such as cards, flowers, candy, romantic dates and more. All to showcase that man’s view of love is shoaded in traditions and conditions.
As beautiful and wonderful as this show of love may appear, there are hidden and unspoken conditions and clauses everywhere. The moment one of these conditions are broken love will seem to start slowly slipping away. Not with the God kind of love. There is no depth of depravity or darkness that God’s love can’t pierce with His cleansing purifying light of forgiveness, understanding and unconditional love.
The Bible says in 1st Corinthians: 13: 4-8 Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud. (5) never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. (6) It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. (7) If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him (8) All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever.
This Valentine’s Day, please take the time to reach out to that special someone in your life to let them know how much they mean to you from your heart. Let them know for sure that your love isn’t conditioned on body, situation or life changes. But just like Jesus who loves us unconditionally, your love for them with all sincerity will be the same.
Happy Valentine’s Day!! Jesus Loves you!!
Supporting Scriptures:
John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 KJV
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Supportive Poem:
God Kind of Love
by Blessing Ekpe
You chose me not by race
And help me by your grace
You taught me to give
As long as I live
You bless me with a man
And make me his woman
With laughter of a son
That fence away the sun
He stood tall and grown
And I with my crown
You shown me how to love
With grace from above
With you there is no pain
And every day I gain
You teach me to care
And help me to share
My one and only dear
Your smile will I wear
To you I write thisletter
For there will be no later.
Scripture: Romans 10:9-10 KJV:
- That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved.
- For with the heart, man believeth unto righteousness; with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
Brief prayer:
Lord Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and was raised from the dead. I now repent of my sins and ask that you come into my life and save me, creating the vessel you desire for me to be in Jesus’s name, Amen!
