I am frequently reminded of the “twizzlers” commercial, wherein this seemingly average looking middle aged gentleman who was calmly sitting alone pondering over a simple, almost laughable subject. As “why he couldn’t wear white after Labor Day”? I know, to some that may have been a trivial thought or issue, but to him, that thought and question was a genuine, sincere, perplexing one that was worthy of an answer.
However, I can in some ways relate to this man in the commercial, especially when I hear of or experience a similar incident with seemingly normal, next door neighborly type folks with seemingly good intentions. Then, at any given social gathering, business meeting, Church event, etc. suddenly, void of being asked, or anyone reaching out to them, encouraging them, prompting them or even suggesting them to give, do, participate or act on something.
They just suddenly, “out of the blue” on their own motivation volunteers to slide right in and solve whatever need or issue at hand. Unfortunately, usually in these cases many never follow through on their promise. Some knowingly in advance that they would not be able to do it.
Why? I often ask myself and wonder” why “?, Why, would someone willingly volunteer to do something that is usually very important and many times, it’s time sensitive. Knowing in advance that there is a strong possibility that they would not be able to do it.
I just wonder if they would just take the time to think about all the problems, disappointments and pain they would create just from their inability to follow through on their promise.
My prayer is “never allow your mouth to write a check that your actions can’t cash”. Because the insufficient response of your actions could bankrupt some sincere person’s “plans, purpose and pursuits” Please think twice before you step up to volunteer for anything that you are not sure that you can finish it. Because your body just simply can’t take you everywhere your heart wants it to go. Please “chew on that” and may God bless you and yours and continue to keep you in every way!!

Supportive Poem:
Don’t Make Me A Promise
By Angelina Blue
Don’t make me a promise you can’t keep
Don’t tell me things that you don’t mean
Don’t whisper sweet nothings that I can’t hear
Don’t tell me you’ll meet me then not be there
Don’t give me tomorrow and leave me in yesterday
Don’t give me things then ask me to pay
Don’t say you remember then forget
Don’t make me believe you then have regret
Don’t say its the truth when its a lie
Don’t say hello to tell me good bye
Don’t say how you feel then act differently
Don’t make me laugh then make me weep
Don’t make me a promise that you can’t keep
Beloved, If you want to develop a personal relationship with this Jesus or rededicate your life to Him, please read and embrace the scripture below, then repeat the brief prayer under the scripture
Scripture: Romans 10:9-10 KJV:
- That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved.
- For with the heart, man believeth unto righteousness; with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
Brief prayer:
Lord Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and was raised from the dead. I now repent of my sins and ask that you come into my life and save me, creating the vessel you desire for me to be in Jesus’s name, Amen!
